JANN HENDRY/Acorn Newspapers GIVING A LIFELINE—A UCLA healthcare technician checks on blood donors Dannette Chambers and her son, Aaron, 17, third from right, a senior at Newbury Park High School, under the watchful eye of sibling Katie, 15, a Newbury Park High School sophomore, during a blood drive for NPHS student-athlete Mia Stoutenborough. The event was last Sunday at Newbury Park First Christian Church. Katie tried to donate blood but was unable to because of her age. Mia's rare blood disease requires constant transfusions. Matching blood types collected at the drive will go directly to Mia; the other types will be credited toward other blood donations that she needs.
