Folk musician to appear at Thousand Oaks Library
To honor National Historic Preservation Month, the Thousand Oaks Library Foundation and Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library will present Concert in the Courtyard with Curt Bouterse at 2 p.m. Sat., May 30 at the Grant Brimhall/Thousand Oaks Library, 1401 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks.
Curt Bouterse, a traditional American folksinger, plays oldtime instruments such as gourd banjos, autoharp, hammered dulcimer and Thai pipes.
He has performed with Doc Watson and Jean Ritchie, and he appears on Ry Cooder's soundtrack for the film "The Long Riders."
Bouterse, who lives in the San Diego area, has a doctorate in ethnomusicology from the University of Maryland.
He is the founder of Alfonso X, a medieval music ensemble, and of the San Diego Shape Note Singers. He has served on the founding committee of the San Diego Folk Festival.
