Westlake student chosen for honors

Jacquelyn L. Phillips, a junior at Westlake High School, has been chosen for two competitive summer programs.

She is one of 30 students chosen from a nationwide applicant pool of more than 750 for the California Institute of Technology's Young Engineering and Science Scholars Program.

She will spend one month studying physics and neuroscience at Cal Tech.

Jacquelyn is also a petty officer in the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets, Trident Patrol Squadron, out of Point Mugu. She is one of four cadets chosen to attend the International Exchange Program to Japan, which will include visits to Nagoya, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Shikoku Island.

She is a former student of Cornerstone Christian School.
