Conejo high schools to receive awards

      Three Conejo Valley Unified School District high schools will receive top honors from the state of California at a special ceremony in Anaheim on May 29. Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park high schools will each receive the Career and Technical Education award. Westlake High School will be recognized as a 2009 California Distinguished School.

      Amidst salsa dancers and Latin music, Oaks Christian School hosted its ninth annual dinner auction on May 8 on the school campus. More than 800 guests—school families, friends and members of the community—attended "Ven Conmigo . . . Come With Me," a gala-themed fundraiser.

Westlake student chosen for honors
      Jacquelyn L. Phillips, a junior at Westlake High School, has been chosen for two competitive summer programs. She is one of 30 students chosen from a nationwide applicant pool of more than 750 for the California Institute of Technology's Young Engineering and Science Scholars Program.

Reagan Library recognizes outstanding teens
      The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation honored 82 Ventura County high school seniors at a recognition dinner on May 13. The event at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley included the presentation of $50,000 in college scholarships to 15 students and a talk by Gary Foster, a former communications officer with presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.

      Former La Reina High swimmer Emily Bibb holds the school record in the 100yard freestyle race, setting the mark in 51.2 seconds in 2006. The information was incorrect in an article published May 7. Current La Reina swimmer Alexandra Kiefer's name was misspelled in the same article.
