Think of your pets when temperatures are soaring upward

2009-05-21 / Letters

It's that time of year again, when the temperatures are on the rise.

Just as you feel pain stepping barefoot onto hot pavement or sand, it's important to remember your dog's paws feel heat extremes, too. To prevent burns and blisters, avoid walking your dog on hot pavement or sand.

Also, vehicles can heat up remarkably fast. Please leave your dog or cat at home while running errands during the warmer temperatures. A minute or two can be too long when the temperatures are on the rise, even in the shade with the windows ajar.

If you keep your dog outdoors during the warmer temperatures, please be sure there's plenty of shade to protect your dog from overheating, as well as making certain your dog has access to cool water, because the sun can quickly make water too hot to drink. Ann Lalo Westlake Village
