Money going to the day laborer site infuriates her
Regarding Nancy Needham's April 30 article, "T.O. Council spends federal grant money," it greatly dismays me that our fiscally irresponsible T.O. City Council, with the exception of Councilmember Claudia Bill-de la Peña, again approved to waste $94,180 of our federal grant monies to operate and maintain their day laborer site for yet another year.
It outrages me that any City Council champions to provide taxpayerfunded employment opportunities for illegal aliens instead of unemployed American citizens and legal immigrants.
On March 20, the state Employment Development Department reported a 9.2 percent unemployment rate for Ventura County, 10.9 percent for California and 8.9 percent for the nation.
I imagine that a big percentage of those unemployed are from the fields of construction, landscaping, food service, plumbing, electrical, etc., so I'm calling on every unemployed American citizen and legal immigrant skilled in these fields to start showing up at day laborer sites across our nation and begin taking back our jobs.
If the T.O. City Council is going to continue to spend $100,000 a year of our tax dollars on this site, then at least let it be our citizens who are the ones to benefit from its services. Dawn Williams Thousand Oaks
