Don't stereotype those who defend same-sex marriage

In the May 7 issue, Ms. Taggart defended Miss California's stance on samesex marriage. While I don't share the same opinion as either of them, I'm happy that Carrie Prejean will keep her tiara and Miss California title.

Ms. Taggart did, however, say a few things that struck a chord with me.

She refers to supporters of same-sex marriage as opponents of "traditional" marriage. Just because I support the right for same-sex couples to marry doesn't mean that I'm against heterosexual marriage. That thought is completely outlandish.

It was also stated that we're seeking tolerance; yes, but also acceptance and equality. She goes on to claim that we have some "radical agenda."

I don't speak for or represent the entire LGBT community, but nobody has informed me of this radical plan. Last time I checked, when people wanted equal treatment under the law, it wasn't radical; it was fair and just.

Congratulations to Maine for recently joining the other states in realizing that marriage should be defined as being with the person you love, regardless of gender.

Hopefully our state Supreme Court will recognize love and equality when they make their eagerly anticipated decision. Jonathan Serret Agoura Hills
