Animal lovers were helpful to Lancaster shelter

2009-05-21 / Letters

On Sun., May 3 an amazing event took place at the Lancaster Animal Shelter. More than 190 volunteers—including staff and volunteers from the Agoura Animal Shelter and local community members from Agoura, Thousand Oaks and Malibu, along with staff and volunteers at the Lancaster Animal Shelter and community members from the Lancaster/Palmdale area as well as administrative staff with L.A. County Animal Care and Control—arrived at the Lancaster Shelter facility with tools and positive energy to complete multiple projects.

By day's end, horse corrals, play cages, electrical and shaders had been repaired; murals had been painted to brighten up formerly white walls; leashes, collars, sweaters, food, towels, blankets and sheet donations had been sorted; bunny and kitty grass gardens were created; misting systems and windscreen were added; and landscaping designed to protect the shelter's animals from the wind and sun had been planted.

We would like to thank the Big Sunday Organization for sponsoring and funding portions of this yearly Southern California-wide volunteer effort as well as the Animal Care Foundation, the nonprofit funding arm for L.A. County Animal Care and Control.

Thank you to everyone in Agoura, Malibu, Thousand Oaks and surrounding communities for your big hearts and generous donations of dollars, product, labor, time and love to the Big Sunday Lancaster project 2009. Robin Kahrs Agoura Hills
