Pierce Brothers to observe Memorial Day
Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park will host the 19th annual Memorial Day Concert and Ceremony on Mon., May 25 at the memorial park, 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village.
The service starts with a preceremony concert at 10:30 a.m. with patriotic music performed by the Air National Guard Band of the Southwest, with Maj. Eric Patterson, director, and Master Sgt. Gregory Robinson, conductor.
The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. with a flyover by the C17 452nd Air Mobility Wing from March Air Force Base, followed by an invocation from Rabbi Shimon Paskow, colonel, U.S. Army.
The event will feature the march of the colors and songs by a choir comprising singers from the Village Voices Choral, Vallayaires, the United Methodist Church of Westlake Village and Emmanuel Presbyterian Church of Thousand Oaks.
The 23rd Marines Color Guard will post the colors, and the Condor Squadron will present a flyover with a salute to the Missing Man.
The Rev. Gary Alan Dickey will read "Elegy to a Fallen Soldier" and lead a prayer after a bagpipe tribute.
The service will conclude with a dove release, farewell salute, Taps and Top the Colors ritual and a benediction by Lt. Carl Thoads, U.S. Navy.
Retired Capt. John Williams, U.S. Army, will close the service, and two wreaths will be placed in honor of all veterans.
The public is invited to attend at no charge.
