Kierstyn Spinelli "I was the shyest person here; I didn't want to talk with anyone," said Los Cerritos Boys & Girls Club member Kierstyn Spinelli. Three years ago, staff members nurtured the 11yearold in programs such as Torch Club (leadership and community service) and Smart Girls (intelligent choices regarding body image, nutrition, drug abuse prevention and relationships).

"One Smart Girls member really inspired me, because she talked so openly about her personal issues. I became eager to branch out on my own." Now 14, Kierstyn has since manned the front desk, given a fundraising speech and been elected president of the Hamster Lover's Club.
