The Lakes should accept parking for Civic Arts Plaza

Since the city of Thousand Oaks invested $12 million into The Lakes development, according to Councilmember Claudia Bill-de la Peña and the April 30 T.O. Acorn, concertgoers should have a perfect right to park in The Lakes parking lot.

Eight dollars is an outrageous price for parking at a public facility, and many concertgoers were parking at The Lakes parking lot until the center's management erected a sign prohibiting such parking.

How can The Lakes management increase their business with such poor public relations? Some concertgoers patronize the restaurants.

Perhaps The Lakes management could allow free parking for concertgoers who dine at one of their restaurants, but for $12 million, we taxpayers own the parking lot.

For those of us who now park in the parking structure, I'd suggest using some of the stimulus money to hire more parking attendants in the parking facility to direct traffic after the concerts.

There's such a mad rush to leave after the performances, I'm surprised that a concert patron or two haven't been hit while trying to get to their car.

By contrast the farmers market on Thursdays at the old city hall has several attendants in the parking lot, directing traffic in a most efficient and courteous way. Perhaps these attendants could be hired to direct traffic at the Civic Arts parking structure.

And there isn't any charge for parking at the farmers market. Samuel M. Rosen Newbury Park
