The American Red Cross of Ventura County will provide free training for new volunteers for its Disaster Services Team on Sat. and Sun., May 16 and 17 at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza, 880 S. Westlake Blvd., Westlake Village.

The training runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.

The program includes an overview of the American Red Cross, how the Disaster Services Team is organized and how the Red Cross responds to disasters.

Information will be presented on ways the Red Cross provides food and shelter, how to run a shelter and a shelter simulation.
