An approaching weather front added a sense of urgency to last Friday's Ventura County Track and Field Championships at Moorpark High. The hint of rain, however, did little to dampen the spirits, or performances, of some of the finest student-athletes in the state. More ... Second-seeded Newbury Park advanced to the championship by defeating third-seeded Agoura, 11-6, last Sunday at home. More ... When Ariana Peschke was 6 months old, her father placed her in a pool. She floated on her back. At 7 years old, she won her first race, the 25-yard backstroke. And at 10, Peschke qualified for the Junior Olympics in the 100 backstroke. More ... By the time he returned to the dugout and was greeted by teammates, Newbury Park High senior shortstop Jack Marder was already claiming he got jammed on the pitch.
