      National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of the first group of winners in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship program. Sean D. Huxley of Newbury Park will receive the National Merit Marsh & McLennan Companies Scholarship. He attends Newbury Park High School and his probable career field is mechanical engineering.

      The Westlake High School Instrumental Music Department will host the annual jazz festival starting at 9 a.m. this Sat., May 9 at the school, 100 N. Lakeview Canyon Road, Westlake Village. More than 40 bands from 22 schools in Southern California will perform.

OCHS senior to attend rocket contest
      Peter Weber, a senior at Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, has recently received a top honor to attend the finals for TARC (Team America Rocket Competition) in Virginia this month. Peter will represent his school as he flies one of 100 rocket designs that will be featured nationally.
