Trying to stop the National Day of Prayer is wrong
Thurs., May 7 is the National Day of Prayer. This has been a tradition since 1952, so why is a group called Freedom from Religions trying to ban it?
We Christians don't force them to pray, so why are they trying to stop us from praying? What are they scared of?
The Constitution states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." This was adopted on June 15,1790.
The first Continental Congress prayed in 1775, and President Abraham Lincoln prayed and urged all Americans to pray in 1863.
Take a good look around at our country and the mess we're in and tell me if we don't need to pray!
Our moral, financial and ecological systems are failing due to our rejection of the very foundations that this great country was built upon.
Our money states "In God we trust," but do we really?
Let's prove it by praying individually or collectively on Thurs., May 7.
God is the only one who can help us repair and rebuild this nation of ours. I urge all of us to pray for the protection of our country in these difficult days. Dorothy Campagna Newbury Park
