Los Robles Master Chorale closes season with 'Splash' concert
Los Robles Master Chorale ends its 31st season, and its first under the new leadership of artistic director Lesley Leighton, with a concert titled "Splash!" at 8 p.m. Fri. and Sat., May 1 and 2 at the Church of the Epiphany, 5450 Churchwood Drive, Oak Park.
The concert features the choral music traditions of South America and Southern California.
The concert will have music from Brazil, Peru, Argentina and Venezuela.
The Southern California tradition will have mission music, Cahuillan Indian bird chants, "Padre Nuestro" and "Ave Verum Corpus" by Ariel Quintana, the Argentina-born assistant conductor of the Los Angeles Master Chorale.
An ensemble accompanied by guitarist will perform the cantata "Romancero Gitano" by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.
The chorale will also perform Morten Lauridsen's "Nocturnes," with the composer providing piano accompaniment.
Lauridsen, 2007 recipient of the National Medal of the Arts, will also give preconcert conversations at 7 p.m. before each show. Guests may meet the composer and performers at a reception following each performance.
Advance tickets are $18, seniors and students $14. Groups of six or more can purchase advance tickets for $12 each.
All tickets will be $20 at the door.
