Many Mansions to get $2 million from AHA

The Area Housing Authority, a nonprofit housing provider and a major supporter of Many Mansions, estimates that it will provide about $2 million in support of Many Mansions' projects this fiscal year.

The funds originate at the Department of Housing and Urban Development and are provided to the AHA for housing assistance payments. Many Mansions receives the funds through Section 8 housing vouchers (rent subsidies) specifically for their clients.

"Ensuring that affordable housing continues to be available throughout the community is one of the AHA's strategic goals," said Douglas Tapking, AHA executive director. "The subsidies allow Many Mansions' developments to remain financially viable and benefits the residents as well the overall community."

The AHA also partners with Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation, which provides HUD-certified homeownership training for families participating in the housing authority's selfsufficiency program.

The AHA provides Section 8 vouchers for 2,451 households, including those in Many Mansions' apartments, and brings more than $29 million in federal dollars to the area annually through their housing programs.

The AHA owns and/or manages 934 units, including 355 units of public housing and 579 units of affordable rental housing.
