One supermarket wasn't prepared for Passover
On April 7, I went into the Ralphs store on Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks to purchase items for Passover. Ralphs had a full page ad in several newspapers advertising many products which were specific for the Jewish holiday, however, it seems our local Ralphs didn't get the memo.
Not only was the so-called Passover section nearly devoid of any Passover products, but when I asked the store manager where the blintzes were in the frozen section of the store, I was told that since their remodel, all of the products which were in the Jewish section had been removed.
I left all the groceries which I had intended to purchase, walked out of the store and went across the street to Vons, where I found an end display and several other special displays with all the items I needed for Passover, including table cloths, napkins and other items.
Ralphs did have shelf after shelf of Easter items on display, and I personally felt very excluded and highly discriminated against by the lack of items for Jewish customers.
Last December, I was also very dismayed that the store didn't have even one box of Hanukkah candles anywhere.
There are two very large Jewish temples in Thousand Oaks, and one in Simi Valley and a fairly large Jewish population in this area, but it seems that Ralphs in Thousand Oaks is either unaware of this fact, or simply chooses to ignore us.
It's quite obvious that Jewish business isn't welcome in Ralphs in Thousand Oaks, as such, I will take my "gelt" elsewhere in the future. Robin Cohen Westmiller Thousand Oaks
