Free enterprise was the biggest loser in city hall
I was watching the government channel tonight and caught a rerun of the debate over the proposed Home Depot and the Thousand Oaks City Council.
I found it very offensive that the not in my backyard mentality was the main topic of why Home Depot shouldn't go in.
The other part was equally disgusting when the backers of the Do-it Center cried foul that Home Depot would cause unfair competition. Do-it Center has a very limited amount of items that are overpriced compared to Home Depot.
Effectively Do-it Center is now a monopoly and I think the city needs to be looked at for allowing this situation to exist.
We in the Newbury Park area have had our quality of life forever altered by having a Home Depot here that creates unbelievable traffic because it's the only one within reasonable driving distance from Westlake and east Thousand Oaks.
I can only hope that Home Depot can appeal the decision or maybe Lowes can build there as there are no other local Lowes. Robert Bohlke Newbury Park
