Doesn't want new zoning for the old Kmart location
Although it's reassuring that the Thousand Oaks City Council voted 4-1 not to allow Home Depot to rebuild at the former Kmart at Hampshire and Foothill,

Competition lives because of the council's decision
The argument against another Home Depot in Thousand Oaks isn't just about its competition with Do-it Center. Neither is it only about the Environmental Impact Report or the traffic. Home Depot stores obviously have their place in the retail spectrum; they succeed because they serve a broad customer base and their prices are low.

Free enterprise was the biggest loser in city hall
I was watching the government channel tonight and caught a rerun of the debate over the proposed Home Depot and the Thousand Oaks City Council. I found it very offensive that the not in my backyard mentality was the main topic of why Home Depot shouldn't go in.

Do it Center wins again, unlike the consumers of T.O.
After several years of intense work by the city staff and Home Depot people, a plan was completed at great expense for everyone. The residents of Thousand Oaks voted the project in on a special election costing the city over $70,000.

The city should repay Home Depot for all its trouble
Since our "esteemed" City Council in all its infinite wisdomvoted against Home Depot being built in our fair city, after initially voting for accepting the planning commission's Environmental Impact Report that would allow Home Depot to proceed- sounds like a politician I know who ran for president who voted for it,

State and federal politicians are spending too much
Tina Aschenbrenner Sandoval fails to recognize her own role in the budget cuts with her tiresome, predictable and bitter April 9 letter ("Teachers must be paid if we want firstrate education"). How dare anyone oppose her views!

A dark side exists on many aspects of humanity
In response to the April 2 letter, "Drug users cause murders they don't know about," I have to say that if guilt were truly useful as a tool for motivation, the world would be a different place. The headline is semi-true.

One supermarket wasn't prepared for Passover
On April 7, I went into the Ralphs store on Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks to purchase items for Passover. Ralphs had a full page ad in several newspapers advertising many products which were specific for the Jewish holiday, however, it seems our local Ralphs didn't get the memo.

Our children our fabulous! Here's why: In these trying times, it's easy to tune out the cries for help. However, one Conejo Valley Unified School District elementary school looked beyond themselves and set an example through their generous support of all our local schools.
