LDS Helping Hands Community Day to help fight cancer

The inaugural Mormon Helping Hands Community Day of Service will be on Sat., April 25.

The Relay For Life of Agoura is the official community service project for local church members from Agoura to Newbury Park.

The relay is a 24-hour fundraiser for the American Cancer Society starting 10 a.m. April 25 at Willow Elementary School, 29026 Laro Drive, Agoura Hills.

Seven congregations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints will provide approximately 500 volunteers to help serve meals and to assist as registration workers, children's camp helpers, and drivers to pick up food.

Ninety-four stakes (local units) from throughout Southern California, consisting of about 2,000 members each, will be participating in projects on April 25.

The program began 10 years ago when the church asked local congregational leaders in South America to reach out in their communities through service.
