You're invited to a card game and casino event
The Thousand Oaks Kiwanis Club is hosting a second annual Texas Hold 'em Poker Tournament and Casino Night this Sun., April 19, and you are invited.
If you participate, you'll be helping children, schools, senior citizens and other people in need through the Kiwanis Club of Thousand Oaks Foundation. Everyone is a winner because the proceeds go to worthy causes.
It begins with Texas Hold 'em poker lessons at 4 p.m. and a buffet dinner at 4:30. The card playing and casino games begin at 5 p.m. A spectacular live auction is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
The event will be at The Canyon Club, 28912 Roadside Drive in Agoura Hills, a part of Whizin's Shopping Center.
There are two ways to participate. For poker players, the cost is $140, which includes registration, the buffet dinner and $10,000 in poker chips. For others who just want to eat, observe the action and participate in the casino games and auctions, the cost is $45.
This event is for adults 21 and older.
The first-place poker winner will get a 37-inch LCD high definition TV and a complimentary buy-in to Pechanga Resort and Casino's "Big Showdown Poker Tournament" the following weekend in Temecula, Calif. The package includes three days and two nights of accommodations, $100 in fine dining and $50 in casual dining. The winner of the April 26 Pechanga tournament is eligible for a free $10,000 buy-in to next year's World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. The Pechanga package is nontransferable.
At the Kiwanis poker tourney, there will also be prizes for winners on the last eight poker tables.
Poker discounts are available for groups of five or nine players, and the savings is substantial. Call (805) 496-1904 for more information.
