Assistant city manager departs
Linda Pappas Diaz left her position as assistant city manager on April 3.
Pappas Diaz began working for Thousand Oaks in May 2006 after a nationwide search conducted by Avery Associates at a cost of $9,800.
No search was required this time to fill her position.
Former city finance director Candis Hong was promoted to assistant city manager on Jan. 19, two months before Pappas Diaz gave her notice.
The city is now combining the work of the two assistant city managers and won't be hiring another one, according to city human resources director Connie Hickman.
City officials said they didn't know where Pappas Diaz would be working next, and she didn't immediately respond to an e-mail asking her about her future plans.
Hong has been replaced as finance director in the interim by John Adams, the deputy finance director. His position isn't being filled at this time.
The assistant city manager serves as the chief operating officer of the city, directly supervising all department heads. The city manager's office is responsible for policy implementation, council and citizen referrals, city budget, intergovernmental relations, legislation, personnel and labor relations, public information, council and citizen committees and special projects.
When Pappas Diaz left, her salary was $181,472 per year. Hong, who was hired by the city in January 1990, is earning $185,251 per year.
A going-away reception for Pappas Diaz took place at City Hall on April 1. Cake and light appetizers were served. City staff, committee members and other community members who'd worked closely with Pappas Diaz attended.
"Linda's service to the city has been greatly appreciated and we wish her much success with her future endeavors," City Manager Scott Mitnick said.
