Conejo Valley Days '09 is resurrected
Conejo Valley Days is back on.
The main event will be May 6 through 10 at Conejo Creek Park South despite an earlier announcement by CVD organizers that this year's event was canceled.
On April 3, the Conejo Valley Activities Corporation board of directors unanimously approved letting North American Amusement use the Conejo Valley Days name and logo. The carnival, game and food booth vendor agreed to give 10 percent of the gross profits back to CVAC.
"It's a very nice offer. People will find Conejo Valley Days exactly as they like it. Money will go back into the community," said Mary Elva Lussier, CVAC president.
North American Amusement operates Shamrock Shows, the CVD carnival vendor for more than 30 years.
"We're very familiar with them and have enjoyed working with Shamrock over the years," Lussier said.
"Shamrock has invited all of the nonprofits and service organizations to join them and put on the CVD event this year," Lussier said.
Although some of the events usually associated with Conejo Valley Days, such as the parade and grand marshal race, will be absent this year, Lussier said, she's excited CVD will be kept in front of the community. She promised to bring it back bigger and better next year.
"I don't think there will be a parade this year. The Kiwanis are an awesome group, but to put it together at this late date would be impossible," she said.
The invitation-only Special Kids' Day event will take place in the morning of Fri., May 8.
Disabled children are welcomed to a special time at the park for just them, when they can go on the rides and win prizes without all the crowds.
Conejo Valley Days has been an annual fundraiser for more than 50 years, helping many nonprofits and service organizations. The parent group CVAC has had financial trouble and difficulty in organizing volunteers.
The Rotary Club's chili cookoff and car show will be April 26 and 27 at Conejo Creek Park South. These events are usually a part of Conejo Valley Days, but when CVD was canceled, the Rotary Club decided to have the event separately this year.
