Conejo Valley Days '09 is resurrected
      Conejo Valley Days is back on. The main event will be May 6 through 10 at Conejo Creek Park South despite an earlier announcement by CVD organizers that this year's event was canceled. On April 3, the Conejo Valley Activities Corporation board of directors unanimously approved letting North American Amusement use the Conejo Valley Days name and logo.

Area Democrats seem pleased so far with Barack Obama
      The first 80 days of President Barack Obama's presidency was the topic of a meeting of Democratic women last weekend. About 50 people filled a room at Westlake Village restaurant Mandevilla on April 11 for a brunch sponsored by the Democratic Women's Council of the Conejo Valley.

Council on Aging needs volunteers
      The city of Thousand Oaks is seeking residents to fill four vacancies on the Council on Aging. The committee serves as an advisory body to City Council to make recommendations on matters concerning seniors. Applicants must be city residents age 60 or above.

Assistant city manager departs
Nobody is named to replace Linda Pappas Diaz
      Linda Pappas Diaz left her position as assistant city manager on April 3. Pappas Diaz began working for Thousand Oaks in May 2006 after a nationwide search conducted by Avery Associates at a cost of $9,800. No search was required this time to fill her position.

Protestors demonstrate against federal, state tax hikes
      As last minute taxpayers dropped tax returns at the T.O. post office yesterday, about 500 people stood on a nearby corner protesting taxation and overspending.

      Most people have interests, but Redwood Boys & Girls Club member Armeen Kermanizadeh has passions . Among them: math (his teacher provides challenges to keep the 6th grader inspired); painting and drawing with gel pens (especially tokens of passion- - hearts); listening to Persian music; and studying language.

      The Conejo Valley Home Remodeling and Green Building Show will take place Sat. and Sun., April 25 to 26 at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza, 880 S. Westlake Blvd., Westlake Village. The hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Money sought for crosswalk improvements
      A woman who was critically injured when she was struck by a car last month in a Westlake Boulevard crosswalk brought attention to the need for road safety improvements. Argelia Rojas, 49, still hospitalized at Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center, was crossing the street with her nephew, Mitchell, 2, to pick up another child after school.

      Public hearings scheduled for the April 21 City Council meeting include proposed increases in various user fees, which are charges for services provided by the city. Costs that involve the city clerk, community and cultural services and several other departments may be subject to the proposed fee hikes.

Remains of T.O. man are identified
      The human remains found in a car discovered March 29 in Zuma Canyon have been positively identified as those of Jeffrey Scott Howard, a Thousand Oaks resident who had been missing since Dec. 21, 2006. Hikers discovered the car, and the skeleton in it, after they saw something shining in the distance and went to investigate.
