Report: CHS football team wants out of Marmonte
Eric Sondheimer of the Los Angeles Times reports Calabasas High will request to leave the Marmonte League for football during the next releaguing cycle, set for the 2010-11 school year.
Phone calls placed to Calabasas athletic director Larry Edwards and assistant principal Eric Anhalt were not returned prior to deadline.
Since joining the league in 2002, the CHS football squad has posted a 247 record, including 44 consecutive Marmonte defeats.
The expectation is that if Calabasas leaves, it will join the Tri-Counties Athletic Association and be placed in the Tri-Valley League.
Oaks Christian, a dominant force in the TVL for years, appears to be the logical choice to fill Calabasas' spot in the Marmonte.
"I see that as a win-win for the Oaks Christian football program, for Calabasas and for the (TriCounties Athletic Association)," said Oaks Christian athletic director Jan Hethcock.
During a February interview with the Acorn, Edwards said Calabasas had no intention of moving out of the Marmonte for football.
Before any proposed move can be discussed, Oaks Christian, St. Bonaventure, Grace Brethren and Santa Clara must win a May 6 appeal in front of the CIF Releaguing Committee, Hethcock said.
During a Northern Area releaguing meeting in February, administrators voted to place Oaks Christian, St. Bonaventure, Grace Brethren and Santa Clara in a football-only league. — Stephen Dorman
