Marmonte League spring outlook: Track and field
Off and running
      It's a good thing most track and field coaches carry a stopwatch because the race for a Marmonte League title in boys' and girls' track and field will be very close this spring. Thousand Oaks and Moorpark high schools both have solid boys' and girls' squads, while Simi Valley, Agoura and Newbury Park expect to be in the hunt on the girls' side.

Report: CHS football team wants out of Marmonte
      Eric Sondheimer of the Los Angeles Times reports Calabasas High will request to leave the Marmonte League for football during the next releaguing cycle, set for the 2010-11 school year. Phone calls placed to Calabasas athletic director Larry Edwards and assistant principal Eric Anhalt were not returned prior to deadline.

CLU Community Leaders hosting golf tourney
      The California Lutheran University Community Leaders Association will host its ninth annual Golf Tournament on Thurs., June 18 at Moorpark Country Club. Proceeds from the tournament will provide scholarships for CLU students.

      It's tough to find an area where Michael Dennis isn't contributing on the baseball field. While those in the know anticipated the Newbury Park High junior first baseman to be a solid hitter this season, hardly anyone expected Dennis to have the type of impact he's had on the mound.

      It won't make Acorn sports editor Stephen Dorman as angry as mentioning a certain Mark Langston-to-Tino Martinez pitch from the 1998 World Series that ended up in the upper deck at Yankee Stadium, but rest assured our San Diego Padres-loving sports guy will be fuming this September when the Los Angeles Dodgers win the National League West.
