It would be great to clear up the apparent confusion regarding the boundaries between the cities of Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village. Many people who may believe they live in Westlake Village (pop. about 9,000) actually reside within the city of Thousand Oaks (pop. about 127,000).

Westlake Village is a smaller city of about 5 square miles in size that's located wholly within Los Angeles County, primarily south of the 101 Freeway in the vicinity of Lakeview and Lindero Canyon.

Thousand Oaks is a city of about 56 square miles in size and located wholly within the county of Ventura. There is an area of the eastern portion of Thousand Oaks that's commonly referred to as the "Westlake" area of Thousand Oaks, after the name given to the area by the original developer; however, this is separate from Westlake Village proper.

For instance, the iconic "Westlake" sign off the 101 Freeway is actually located within Thousand Oaks, because it's referring to the Westlake community of Thousand Oaks. In addition, all of Westlake Boulevard (and surrounding neighborhoods) as well as North Ranch are also in Thousand Oaks.

Two simple ways to check is whether your school district is Conejo Valley Unified School District (if so, you're located in Thousand Oaks) or to simply take a look at your last property tax bill. Is it from Los Angeles County or Ventura County? Anastasiya Heydari Thousand Oaks
