Part of Lynn Road has lower speed limit In about a week new signs and pavement markings will show a speed reduction to 45 mph on a portion of Lynn Road, according to public works director Mark Watkins. The City Council voted unanimously to lower the speed limit from 50 mph to 45 mph on Lynn Road from Avenida de Los Arboles to Camino Manzanas. "I'm so happy that this is happening," Councilmember Jacqui Irwin said. The state raised the road's speed limit from 45 to 50 about five years ago, and the city has been working to change it back ever since, Councilmember Dennis Gillette said. The change occurred because of "a community outcry from residents from the area," he said. Gillette went on to explain, "It's taken five years and I don't know how many thousands of hours of meetings, discussions, applications, appeals and money—lots of money." Gillette emphasized the city doesn't make decisions in a vacuum and lowering the speed limit was "not an easy, quick process" but one that took "time, effort, energy and resources." The speed limit ordinance was changed during the March 24 council meeting. Other parts of Lynn Road will retain the 50 mph speed limit. —Nancy Needham |
