Hikers may have found missing T.O. man
      A mysterious disappearance in 2006 may have been solved when a car was discovered in a canyon last weekend. It will take about a week for a coroner's report to positively identify what are likely the remains of Jeffrey Scott Howard of Thousand Oaks. The skeletal remains were inside Howard's car, which was discovered by hikers on Sunday.

City Council has 9 commandments
      The City Council has created nine commandments they want to permanently post on a wall in council chambers. The norms, originally passed in July 2005, were reviewed earlier this year. All five council members agreed with the revisions, which will be incorporated on the back of the speaker cards as well as being displayed at the entrance to the council chambers.

Part of Lynn Road has lower speed limit
      In about a week new signs and pavement markings will show a speed reduction to 45 mph on a portion of Lynn Road, according to public works director Mark Watkins. The City Council voted unanimously to lower the speed limit from 50 mph to 45 mph on Lynn Road from Avenida de Los Arboles to Camino Manzanas.

Ventura County property auction is canceled
      Ventura County Tax Collector Larry Matheney recently announced the cancellation of an auction of taxdefaulted properties. With one exception involving a substandard-sized parcel of raw land, all properties that had been slated for sale to satisfy unpaid property taxes have now been redeemed by payment of all taxes, penalties and costs.

Voluntarily helping the environment
      KEEPING IT OUT OF THE LANDFILL- Joel Price organizes electronic equipment at Thousand Oaks High School during the Cheerleaders' Electronics Recycling fundraiser. Last Saturday's free event gave residents an opportunity to drop off computers, monitors, TVs, cellphones and other electronic devices. Organizers estimate they collected about 18,000 pounds of e-waste.

      The Ventura County Community Foundation's Women's Legacy Fund annual grants program is accepting grant proposals. The submission deadline is 5 p.m. Fri., May 15. The fund supports nonprofit programs that emphasize the economic, education, physical, emotional, social, artistic and personal growth of women and girls in Ventura County.

Museum event honors WWII women
      The Commemorative Air Force Aviation Museum at Camarillo Airport will honor the women who served in any capacity during World War II in a special event on May 9. The museum will honor all women who served as a WASP, a WAVE, a "Rosie the Riveter," a spy, a reporter, a nurse or in any other capacity for the war effort.
