In pumping south-swell surf along northern Malibu, the Los Cerritos Middle School surf team wrapped up first place in the Interscholastic Surfing Federation's middle school division.

The sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders from Thousand Oaks held off Crane Middle School of Montecito for a 14point victory at Malibu, vaulting Los Cerritos into the top spot after five events.

This is the first year Los Cerritos participated in the ISF.

At Malibu's Heavens surf break, Kyle Woods did it all for Los Cerritos. Woods finished second in coed bodyboarding, third in boys' longboarding and sixth in boys' shortboarding.

Cassie Holmes and Carley Doyle finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in girls' longboarding. In addition, Holmes was third in girls' shortboarding, while Doyle was fourth in the same event.

Landon McCloud was fourth in coed bodyboarding. JJ Kerson finished sixth.

Los Cerritos has advanced to the state championships at Oceanside, April 18-19, where they'll face the top middle schools from California.
