CSU Channel Islands hires first athletic director
Carl E. Reed II California State University Channel Islands President Richard R. Rush announced the appointment of Carl E. Reed II as the university's first athletic director.
Reed will assume his duties on May 1. He has served as assistant athletic director for Stanford University for the past five years.
Prior to joining Stanford, Reed was director of the Jenny Craig Pavilion at the University of San Diego for three years, as well as serving two years as assistant event manager for the University of California, Berkeley.
"Carl comes to Channel Islands with a breadth of experience in athletic programs and facility and event management," university President Richard R. Rush said.
"While at Stanford University, Carl helped their athletic program to win the annual NACDA Learfield Sports Directors' Cup, previously known as the Sears Cup, given to colleges and universities with the most success in collegiate athletics within various NCAAsponsored championships. Stanford has won it 14 straight years, winning 14 out of the 15 years it has been offered. . . .
"We are eager to welcome him to the campus and introduce him to our local communities," Rush said.
In his new role as athletic director, Reed will be responsible for planning, directing and coordinating a comprehensive intercollegiate athletics program as part of the university's focus on wellness.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity to develop an athletic program that will not only teach student athletes about sports but develop them as future leaders," Reed said.
"I look forward to working with President Rush and the campus community in developing an athletic program that will be based on educational activities, developing the individual from the core and providing an exceptional community-centered program."
Reed holds a Master of Arts degree in health, physical education and recreation from St. Mary's College, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in politics.
