Essay writers receive cash
The Conejo Valley Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recently recognized two local students for their scholastic achievements in essay composition for the annual DAR Good Citizens and American History Essay Contests.
Emily Miller, an eighth-grade student at La Reina High School, won the American History Essay Contest with a composition titled "Ideals of the Gettysburg Address."
She will receive a $100 savings bond from the chapter.
Kari Geiger, 17, a senior at Moorpark High School, was named the Conejo Valley DAR Good Citizen Essay winner. She also won top honors at the district level.
She received a $200 scholarship from the Conejo Valley Chapter and a savings bond from the district board of directors.
Participation in the Good Citizen Essay Contest is optional and in addition to being named the school's Good Citizen.
Other area Good Citizen Award recipients are Benjamin Pyle, a senior at Oak Park High School; Kathryn Fraser Light, a WHS musicians senior at Newbury Park High School; Joseph Roberts, a senior at Oaks Christian High School; Jennifer Marie Zahlit, a senior at La Reina; and Nadia Safaeinilli of Thousand Oaks High School.
