Simulating an alcohol-related crash
      DANGERS OF DRUNKEN DRIVING DRAMATIZED- Newbury Park High School student Christina DeLeon plays the part of an injured passenger being treated by Ventura County Fire Department during the school's annual "Every 15 Minutes" program. Students watched a simulated alcohol-related traffic collision on the campus.

District gets award for prevention of dropouts
      Conejo Valley Unified School District's dropout prevention program has been recognized as a model by the state's Office of Education. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell announced last week that the State School Attendance Review Board had given eight school districts the designation "Model of Dropout Prevention.

WHS musicians wash cars for fundraiser
      The Westlake High School Instrumental Music Department will hold a car wash from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat., March 28 in the north parking lot of the school, 100 N. Lakeview Canyon Road, Westlake Village. Cost is $5 per car. Proceeds will support the activities of the winter color guard and drum lines.

Colina Middle School to present 'Up the Down Staircase'
      The Colina Middle School Drama Department will perform Bel Kaufman's "Up the Down Staircase" at the school, 1500 E. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Thurs. and Fri., April 2 and 3, and 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Sat., April 4.

It's hardly a walk in the park
      LEARNING ABOUT OTHERS- Rhiannon Simko, 11, a Redwood Middle School student, tries to maneuver a wheelchair as part of the school's Abilities Awareness event earlier this month. The Redwood Middle School PTSA and the physical education department present the program every year so students can participate in activities that simulate life with disabilities.
