Resident rolls out the welcome mat for Home Depot
As a 36year resident of Thousand Oaks, I live a little over a mile from the proposed Home Depot site on Hampshire Road, and I welcome Home Depot into our community.
Home Depot has done everything by the book, and opponents are still beating a dead horse. It's no secret that the Do-it Center launched a costly campaign as a tactic to keep Home Depot out of our community.
Voters saw through it and shot Measure B down last summer. Wouldn't it have been great if the Do-it Center had spent those tens of thousands of dollars on constructive projects in Thousand Oaks? I know of many nonprofit programs that could have used those dollars so much better.
And what a shame that the Do-it Center is now spending more dollars hoping to change your mind.
I was also at the Thousand Oaks Planning Commission hearing until midnight to show my support. Bottom line: Home Depot has done everything in its power to create the right project for Thousand Oaks. They endured study after study, completed a mitigated negative declaration, two environmental impact reports and have been under the city and community microscope for almost four years.
The numerous studies conclude that any impacts would be insignificant with appropriate mitigation by the Home Depot, mitigations they are more than willing to implement.
The community has spoken, and after all that scrutiny, Home Depot is compliant and investing in our community. There's nothing more to debate. The evidence after numerous studies confirms this is the right use for the site.
The benefits are clear, and I urge you to join me and write the City Council today. Julian Macdonald Westlake Village
