Resident rolls out the welcome mat for Home Depot
As a 36year resident of Thousand Oaks, I live a little over a mile from the proposed Home Depot site on Hampshire Road, and I welcome Home Depot into our community. Home Depot has done everything by the book, and opponents are still beating a dead horse.

It's 'survival of the fittest' in the world of business
I've been a resident of Westlake Village for more than 20 years. I always enjoyed the convenience of shopping at Kmart on Hampshire Road until it closed. I shop regularly at Home Depot in Newbury Park.

Stores that play by the rules deserve the city's approval
I've talked to my neighbors, and we agree that this whole Home Depot debate is just ridiculous. It's "simplistic" when you have socalled public officials turning what should be a cut and dried land-use issue into a political football.

Home Depot is short on personnel
Why another Home Depot when the one we have is so ineffective? I am the "do it yourself queen" of my cul-de-sac, yet I avoid HD like the plague.

Big box stores shouldn't go into our neighborhoods
For what it's worth, I recently asked a simple question about the amount of traffic that will be increased in the Thousand Oaks tract adjoining the new Home Depot site; however, I never got a straight answer. I was redirected to some environmental impact report, and it was left to my own interpretation.

Acorn editorial misses the mark on classroom sizes
Obviously from your opinion on March 12, "We must do more with less spending," you are as sick and tired of the Home Depot and Costco sagas as I am. I can't think of another reason why such an inflammatory opinion was put in the paper.

Undeserving of getting a pink slip
For the last few weeks much has been said about the teachers of California. I've read people comment that teachers are paid too much and that they should quit whining about budget cuts and layoffs. I'm one of those teachers, and I want to shed some light into the life of a teacher.

Let's keep good teachers, but let the other ones go
I'm frustrated, as I'm sure many other are, by the recent "pink slips" issued to our teachers. Some teachers who have seniority shouldn't necessarily be excluded from potential job cuts. By basing job security solely on "time served," aren't we encouraging complacency?

The school district is full of deceit
As part of Conejo Valley Unified School District's justification for placement of the MATES (Meadows Art and Technology Elementary School) charter campus at Glenwood instead of Meadows on Jan. 21, it stated that option would "require onetime facilities modifications to Glenwood that could cost as much as $300,000.

To save money, the city should cancel Lang Ranch Park
Regarding the Acorn March 5 opinion ("It's time for council members to lead"), the Thousand Oaks City Council anticipates budgetary shortfalls for the next two fiscal years of $3.2 million and $4.0 million respectively. To meet the challenge, the City Council will be considering possible reductions for public safety and services.

Angered and disgusted by a hate crime in T.O.
Hate crimes are a despicable action that are used to brand and humiliate certain bodies of people. Recently I was reading the Thousand Oaks Acorn and came across an article about high school students placing swastikas on the locker of a Jewish middle schooler.

Reduce the waste of water by fixing household leaks
With the snow pack at 85 percent and reservoirs sitting at 75 percent, the story is not all that grim, but even with recent rainfall, we're likely to see mandatory water rationing this summer. This bad news is due mainly to reduced allocation from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and the Colorado River aqueducts.

Police, paramedics and neighbors were oustanding
On Sat., March 14, our car was sideswiped in front of our home by a hit-and-run driver. Hearing the screech of tires and the sound of a crash, one of us immediately ran out to see what had happened. Several neighbors had already emerged on the scene with detailed information about what they had seen.

Sculpture had an interesting name
"New sculptures to be unveiled in T.O." has to be the funniest article the Acorn has ever run. A sculpture depicting, in essence, a giant hole? Titled "Uranus"? Outside the children's entrance of the library? Stop it! You're killing me!
