Training will be offered by city's disaster response team
      The Thousand Oaks Disaster Assistance Response Team is an allvolunteer disaster response and community action team dedicated to training its members and educating residents in emergency preparation and response. DART is seeking new members and offering a series of free classes required for acceptance onto the team.

Bus contract calls for improved service
      It's not cheap to keep the wheels of the buses going around in Thousand Oaks. The City Council voted on March 10 to pay $2 million this year to a transportation company to operate city buses and DialARide.

Man found guilty of stalking local woman
      A Michigan man was found guilty of felony stalking in Ventura County Superior Court. On March 13 a jury agreed with prosecutors that George Castales, 39, stalked a 29-year-old Thousand Oaks woman after visiting her page on myspace.com. Sentencing is scheduled for April 20.

Accident kills male driver, 45
      Authorities are still investigating a Thousand Oaks highway crash that killed a Huntington Beach man. On March 17, Christopher Smith, 45, was driving a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria south on the 23 Freeway when his car went straight as the road curved near the northbound transition to the 101 Freeway. It was 10:38 p.m.

City will offer incentive for early retirees
      A $400,000 buyout program for certain employees may be the City Council's answer to the $3.2million budget gap for the fiscal year beginning in July and the $4million deficit expected the following year. Thousand Oaks will offer $20,000 in a retirement health savings account to 20 employees over age 50 who've worked for the city for at least 15 years.

Vehicle crash causes traffic jam during morning rush hour
      Three accidents that occurred in quick succession on the 101 Freeway during rush hour Tuesday morning had a lot in common, according to California Highway Patrol officer Steve Hunsaker. "All had very minor injuries because all of those involved were wearing safety belts," Hunsaker said.

      The Thousand Oaks Council on Aging is engaged in three projects that will benefit senior adults in the area. The council is a commission of nine seniors chosen by members of the City Council who provide seniors with a voice at city hall and distribute information on resources and their availability to help seniors in their daily living needs.
