Two pedestrians struck by car in Westlake portion of Thousand Oaks A woman holding a child in her arms was struck by a car while crossing Westlake Boulevard at Devonshire Avenue in Thousand Oaks last week. Argelia Rojas, 49, of Westlake Village was holding her 2-year-old nephew, Mitchell Ito, and crossing the street inside a crosswalk. They were struck by a 1997 Toyota Corolla driven by Linda Ellsworth, 60, of Newbury Park, a police report said. "Rojas was hit by the driver's side of the vehicle, went up on the hood, hitting the windshield, and then rolled off. The child was thrown from the impact of the car," said traffic Sgt. Bob Fleming. Rojas, who was on her way to pick up another nephew at nearby Westlake Elementary School, was taken to Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in critical condition. The boy also went to the hospital and was released with scrapes and bruises. Ellsworth, who hasn't been cited or arrested, is cooperating and willingly submitted to a blood test to check for drugs or alcohol, Fleming said. "The accident is still under investigation and is being reconstructed to determine speed," Fleming said. —Nancy Needham |
