Oaks Christian to host bone marrow drive

Malachi Smith Malachi Smith Oaks Christian School will host a bone marrow drive for 2year-old Malachi Smith from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow, March 13, in the executive dining room in the school cafeteria, 31749 La Tienda Drive, Westlake Village. Directional signs will be posted.

Malachi—son of Wes Smith, the school's head trainer, track and cross country coach—was diagnosed with leukemia a year ago. He has recently relapsed, making it necessary to find a bone marrow match for him to receive a transplant.

Registering takes 15 minutes and involves paperwork, a painless cheek swab and a $25 fee for those who can pay. Those who sign up are not obligated to donate if they are a match.

Donors must be between the ages of 18 to 60.

Registrants are asked to sign up in advance at www.mysignup .com/marrow4kai.

An information session will be held at the school from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. tonight, March 12, for those unsure about registering.
