It makes his day to see Boy Scouts fighting hunger

2009-03-12 / Letters

On Thurs., Feb. 26 we came home to find a paper bag hanging on our door knob from the Boy Scouts of America with a list of groceries needed for people in distress.

On Friday, we took Patti to her hair bender and then went shopping and took the bag with us. As we selected items we marked them off the list. Cooking oil, pasta, peanut butter, cereal, condensed milk—and as I placed them in the bag it gave me a good feeling.

On Saturday morning, there was a knock on our door, and there were two boys about 8 or 9 years old dressed in their clean and pressed Scout uniforms.

Again I was possessed with a good feeling.

They were so handsome that it looked like they graced a Saturday Evening Post magazine. If the late Norman Rockwell would have seen them, they would have stolen his heart away.

As I handed the bag to the boys they looked inside then gave me a big smile and a big thankyou. That one gesture gave me a good feeling like I was a good fellow and had done something special instead of just a small charity.

They made my day.
