Swedish author to discuss work

2009-03-12 / Community

Swedish author Linda Olsson will discuss her work and her life at 2 p.m. Sun., March 15 in the Preus-Brandt Forum at California Lutheran University, 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks.

Olsson will read from her books and will discuss living in two cultures, as well as her reasons for writing her latest book in English rather than her native Swedish.

Olsson, who lives in New Zealand, was born in Stockholm.

She has lived in Kenya, Singapore, Great Britain and Japan.

Olsson's second book, "Sonata for Miriam," follows a composer's journey from New Zealand to Poland to Sweden and the discoveries he makes along the way.

Her first novel, "Astrid & Veronika," recounts the unusual friendship between two women in Sweden.

In 2003, Olsson won the Sunday Star-Times Short Story Competition, a prestigious award for New Zealand short fiction.

The Swedish Women's Educational Association and CLU are sponsoring the free presentation.
