City requests, gets EIR
      In response to a request by the city, the state Public Utilities Commission is requiring Southern California Edison to prepare an environmental impact report (EIR) before building a substation. The proposed Presidential Substation near Olsen Road is controversial, and residents protested the idea at the Jan. 13 City Council meeting.

      The first 30 days of President Barack Obama's presidency offer some insight as to what to expect in the future, said Herbert Gooch, California Lutheran University political science department chair. Gooch spoke on Feb. 20 to about 50 women from the Conejo Valley Republican Women Federated. His remarks were wellreceived by the attendees.

Visual arts museum seeks a location in the Conejo
      Thousand Oaks Boulevard may become the site of a visual arts museum that a group hopes to build in Conejo Valley. Former city mayor and county supervisor Frank Schillo attended the Feb. 24 City Council meeting and gave a short presentation asking the council to include among its goals a visual arts museum in Thousand Oaks. The council responded favorably.

Women's Expo to celebrate women's interests
      Celebrating the varied interests of women is the goal of Women's Expo Ventura County, March 13 to 15 at Seaside Park in Ventura. "It's not just about her being a professional or a mom," organizer Beth Sutherland said. "It's about her being a woman. . . . There are so many hats that a woman wears. That's the purpose of Women's Expo—to celebrate all that she is.
