Viewpoint boys unable to find net vs. Mountain View
The Viewpoint boys' soccer season came to an end Tuesday when the Patriots fell on the road to Mountain View, 1-0, in the CIF-Southern Section Division VI semifinals.
The game's only goal came from Mountain View's Diego Rodriquez in the 60th minute.
"It took a special play from a special player for Mountain View to win," Viewpoint head coach Travis Kikugawa said. "Most of the game was played in the neutral zone, and we only had about two chances to score.
"The better team won, but our boys didn't lose due to lack of heart or desire. They went down fighting, and as a coach that's all you can ask for."
Champions of the Liberty League, Viewpoint (15-4-5) had won seven straight matches prior to Tuesday's loss.
Kikugawa said it will be difficult saying goodbye to the seniors, including Patrick Handy, who is headed to Notre Dame.
"I'll always remember the process and journey with this team," Kikugawa said. "I've been working with some of these seniors for close to 10 years, and it's been quite a privilege.
"For example, I introduced (Handy) to soccer at the age of 5. It's been an unbelievable process to see him grow on and off the field, and I'm going to miss him."
