Sees no advantage in new Home Depot
I'm not sure how one could turn the proposed Home Depot site into a political partisan issue, as was done in your Feb.

Either let Home Depot open here or residents will pay the consequences
The way last month's Home Depot planning commission decision has been described just isn't accurate. I was there for the long haul with over 40 of my fellow neighbors who also welcome this new Home Depot to our community. The facts don't lie.

Let's think 'outside the box' on Home Depot
I've been following with interest debates over proposals for Home Depot in Westlake Village and Costco in Newbury Park. It seems from the letters to the editor, we're either on the "Save the stars and build nothing" side or the "Go big box" side.

Didn't like the way one of the dealers closed its doors
My wife and I own both a Chevy and a Dodge, so it was quite a shock to read that Courtesy Chevrolet and Westoaks Chrysler Dodge have closed their doors. We've bought several cars at Courtesy over the years, mainly because of their excellent service department.

When hard choices must be made, the voices of parents matter the most
How many states regularly spend more money per child on education than California? Is your child's class size consistent with other children across the nation? The issue of a budget deficit for the education of our children has become one more weight on parents in our community. Understandably this issue can be overwhelming, and many don't know how to get involved.

Cops could write plenty of tickets on rainy days
I believe police officers are writing tickets to raise city revenue; otherwise, why don't they write citations when it's raining- - a very dangerous time? In less than 10 miles, on Mon., Feb. 16, I counted 102 cars, no lights with windshield wipers on. I didn't see one patrol officer but came across one accident.

His 'American dream' doesn't include handouts from government
I shudder to think about Mary Burau's version of the "American dream" (Feb. 26 T.O. Acorn letters, "Conservatives have nothing to offer the country.") She cites the Bush administration as the worst ever because of the "unnecessary war" after terrorists destroyed the trade center towers.

Echoes Obama's call for government 'watch dogs'
President Obama recently announced that citizens should be "watch dogs" for local governments. Claudia Bill-de la Peña did her job as a T.O. City Council member and exercised her "watch dog" responsibility. She wants Thousand Oaks city government to show restraint with travel trips out of the area during the economic crisis.

A president who says 'Yes, we can' gives reader hope
I'm glad I lived to hear President Obama's stirring address to the nation. Not since FDR or JFK have I heard so stirring a speech. "Yes, we can" has been translated into hope. As a retired pedagogue, I was elated with the president's support of education.

Agrees we should keep Guantanamo
I agree completely with Elizabeth Buckner's Feb. 26 letter, "Guantanamo is best for America." I sometimes feel liberals care more about terrorists and their rights than protecting Americans from another terrorist attack.

Hollywood types aren't heroes- they're elitists
While I love good movies, it's been over 15 years since I've bothered to watch the Academy Awards. By all accounts, the recognition of motion picture art is secondary to honoring the generation of income for the industry, its producers, actors and support personnel.

Welfare for the movie industry should be shared
I've always loved movies. Hollywood could always entertain and enlighten. Yet Hollywood has worn out its welcome regarding the recently approved California state budget. This newly inked leviathan has a porky provision giving Hollywood $100 million per year in tax incentives.

Help the economy and newspapers: Charge for Internet
I have a simple solution for the world's financial crisis. Charge for the Internet. It's putting many businesses under, most notably daily newspapers. Why? Because it's free. Simply charge senders 1 cent per email just like we pay for postage stamps. As a nice side effect, spam would disappear.

Thinks district trustee is in hip pocket of the PTA
The political protest in front of state Sen. Tony Strickland's office on Feb. 5 was organized by newly elected Conejo Valley Unified School District trustee Peggy Buckles,
