Area girls' hoops squads advance deep into playoffs

Four local girls' basketball teams, including three from the Marmonte League, advanced to the quarterfinals of their respective CIFSouthern Section playoff brackets.

Quarterfinal matchups were played Wednesday night. Semifinal games are slated for Saturday.

In the Division IIAA field, Thousand Oaks (24-4) defeated Burbank and El Toro in the first two rounds. The Lancers, winners of 14 of their last 15 games, played at Vista del Lago in the quarterfinals.

TOHS sophomore forward Karina Alofaituli scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against Burbank.

Newbury Park (22-5) recorded a pair of home victories in the first two rounds of the Division IIA playoffs, beating Glendora and Saugus both by double figures.

NPHS played at Beverly Hills on Wednesday.

Panther senior point guard Sidney Dobner did it all against Glendora with 21 points, nine steals and five assists.

Agoura's magical season continued with wins over San Marcos and South Hills in the opening rounds of the Division IIIAA bracket.

The Chargers (25-3) traveled to Rancho Santa Margarita for their third postseason game.

Top-seeded Oaks Christian dominated in the first two rounds of Division IVA competition.

The Lions (22-1) blew past Louisville, 60-19, to open the playoffs and then upended Maranatha, 58-40, on the road.

Oaks Christian played at Harvard-Westlake on Wednesday.

Brianna Barrett and Katie Brooks each had 15 points for OCHS against Louisville. Brooks, a junior, added 23 points in the Maranatha game.
