Westlake Hills kids care about others

Read-athon comes to T.O.
      A read-athon will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., Feb. 28 at Conejo Elementary School, 280 N. Conejo School Road, Thousand Oaks. The public is asked to bring food donations. The students' goal is to read 7,000 pages and collect 500 canned goods.

Locals receive college honors
      •Amy Schaffer of Thousand Oaks was named to the dean's list at Northeastern University for the fall 2008 semester. To be named to the dean's list, students must carry a full program of at least four courses, have a quality point average of 3.

Teacher of the Year nominations being accepted through April
      Nominations for the 2008-09 Teacher of the Year award, sponsored by Teachers' Insurance Plan, are being accepted through Thurs., April 30. The award will include $1,000 for the winning teacher and a $500 grant to the teacher's school. The state winner will also be eligible for the national award, which includes a special recognition and a $2,500 travel certificate.

Boogie Night being held at St. Jude the Apostle School
      St. Jude the Apostle School in Westlake Village will host a Boogie Night benefit auction from 6 p.m. to midnight Fri., March 6 in the Disco Inferno Ballroom at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza, 880 S. Westlake Blvd., Westlake Village.
