Mohammad Afzal Sarwary, 42, of Thousand Oaks was arrested on one count of grant theft of government housing funds.
The Ventura County district attorney's office's government fraud unit was investigating public assistance fraud allegedly committed by Sarwary during the past several months. He may have received more than $8,700 from the Housing Authority to which he wasn't entitled.
Members of the fraud unit and Ventura County Sheriff's Department served a search warrant at Sarwary's house on Feb. 4 and found evidence that led to his arrest. He was booked into the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $10,000.
