Silverado Senior Living explores vitamin D

Silverado Senior Living will present a free seminar titled "Vitamin D Deficiency in the Elderly: Consequences for Bone Loss and Fractures, and Diagnostic and Therapeutic Strategies" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thurs., Feb. 19 at Silverado Senior Living Calabasas, 25100 Calabasas Road, Calabasas.

The speaker will be Kelly Chun, PhD, associate director of endocrinology at Endocrine Sciences/ Esoterix, a division of LabCorp.

Chun will present uptodate information about the effects, diagnosis and treatment of Vitamin D deficiency. The talk will cover the roles and mechanisms of Vitamin D action in the body, clinical significance of Vitamin D deficiency, and diagnosis and treatment of Vitamin D deficiency.

Chun has written many publications on clinical biochemistry and molecular biology and has served as a reviewer for a number of scientific journals. She has extensive research experience in protein science and has developed and validated several pivotal endocrine assays for pharmaceutical trials.

Chun received her doctorate in biochemistry from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed her postdoctoral clinical chemistry fellowship at Harvard Medical School.

The seminar is open to the public and meets the qualification for two hours of continuing education credits for medical professionals.
