The Thousand Oaks Acorn in its Feb. 5 editorial about council member travel, resorted to the politics of character assassination. The Acorn viciously attacked me for my proposal to reduce- yes, reduce- the travel costs of council members, in order to help close a significant budget gap. More ... I'd like to begin by telling the Acorn that I'm ashamed of them for publishing another hit piece on Councilmember Claudia Billde la Peña and those who speak out. I remember roughly 10 years ago when the local papers and cronies in town attacked Elois Zeanah for speaking against the majority of the council. More ... I, too, share the frustration by the delay of Costco. I say delay, as my hopes are high that we will see the arrival of the store. A lot of folks could benefit by the store's employment. What do the naysayers think of that? More ... I'm happy to report that, no, Karen Hartstein isn't the only one who misses bright stars in the sky or the field by the Wendy exit (Feb. 5 T.O. Acorn letters, "Goodbye and good riddance to Costco"). I was heartened to read her letter and want to say that she speaks for me, too. More ... One sentence in your Jan. 29 opinion ("Not giving up on Costco") really stood out to me: "This isn't Palmdale, and Costco isn't Woolworth's." Woolworth's, founded in 1878, still operates today as Foot Locker. Falling on hard times—not until the 1960s after almost 80 years— they shed stores and reworked plans to stay in business. More ... In response to the letter and recent opinions expressed in favor of another Costco in Thousand Oaks, people must understand that the Conejo Valley doesn't have to be "San Fernando Valley-lite." Having two Costcos and two Home Depots in a city this size is absurd. More ... As a former Glenwood Elementary School parent and a current district teacher, I find Mr. Dunn's "routine statement" about the type of education offered at Glenwood incredibly offensive. More ... For years, the teachers at Meadows Elementary have spent their own time pursuing an integrated artsbased teaching program that's beneficial to children of all needs. Pursuit of this curriculum has yielded amazing results. More ... My wife and I were recently driving down T.O. Boulevard on our way to lunch, heading east past the Civic Arts Plaza when we saw something that disturbed us. At first we saw two motorcycle policemen had pulled over two cars and were issuing citations. More ... As a neighbor of the Wildwood Neighborhood Park, I wanted to expand on one issue that you may not be aware of regarding your Jan. More ... Once Time Warner acquired the cable TV franchise in Thousand Oaks, it didn't take them very long to start doing what they do so well: raising rates. Although I subscribe to a satellite service for premium programming, I've always paid a little extra to get local channels on cable, mainly because it also carries the excellent local channel, TOTV. More ... I'm certain many share my concern over the reckless direction elected officials are taking our economy via their fiscally irresponsible spending and then expecting us to supplement their mistakes by accepting their proposed tax hikes or faux stimulus bill. More ... The stock market has greeted our new president with a resounding Bronx cheer. An anti-business, anti-Wall Street, anti-wealth tone has been set early by Obama that's both disconcerting and dangerous, and the capital markets don't like it one bit. More ... The Thousand Oaks Council on Aging would like to thank the Thousand Oaks Acorn for its help in the timely publishing of our regular meeting notices. This helps us inform the senior community about the wonderful guest speakers we host and encourages them to attend our meetings or watch them on TV. More ... Letters RSS feed |
