New private school opens in Ventura County
Beacon Hill Classical Academy, a Christian classical school in Ventura County, will open its doors in the fall of 2009 for kindergarten, first and second grades in Camarillo. The intention is to add one grade every year through grade 12.
The school emphasizes teaching along with the student's cognitive development and presents a liberal arts curriculum that includes Latin, formal logic and the Great Books.
The school believes that imparting wisdom, eloquence and a love of learning should be the goal of education.
Beacon Hill is a nonprofit association and a member of the Association of Classical and Christian Schools.
Headmaster Devin Smith and his wife, Amy Smith, started the school along with a founding board of like-minded educators.
In addition to its fulltime program, Beacon Hill offers a program for home schooling families which includes classical subjects. In the schooltohome hybrid program, students attend school three days per week and follow teachercreated lesson plans with their parents the remainder of the week.
